The Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) continues to advance efforts to improve electricity reliability and support growing demand across the country through strategic investments in power generation infrastructure.

As part of these efforts, GPL will be increasing its generation capacity in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni-Mazaruni) with the addition of a new Cummins Generating Set #4, which is expected to be commissioned by the end of July 2026.

The new generating set has a capacity of 2.2 megawatts, significantly enhancing GPL’s ability to meet the growing electricity demand in Bartica and surrounding communities. Bartica currently has a generation capacity of 5.3 megawatts, while peak demand stands at approximately 3 megawatts. The addition of the new generating unit will further strengthen the reliability and stability of electricity supply, while providing additional reserve capacity to support continued residential, commercial, and industrial growth in the township.

Bartica also benefits from a 1.5-megawatt Solar Farm, which forms part of GPL’s broader strategy to diversify Guyana’s energy mix through renewable energy integration. The combination of thermal generation and solar energy continues to support a more resilient and efficient electricity network for customers in the region.

The addition of the new generating set underscores GPL’s commitment to expanding and modernising electricity infrastructure to meet increasing customer demand and support economic development in hinterland communities. This investment will further position GPL to maintain a stable and reliable electricity supply in Bartica, while supporting ongoing development in the region.

GPL remains committed to delivering safe, reliable, and efficient electricity service to customers across Guyana.
