Dead: Fireman Voshaun Manbodh

The Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) has launched an immediate internal investigation into the death of firefighter Voshaun Manbodh, who died days after being injured during the recent Mae’s Schools fire.

Fireman 1871 Voshaun Manbodh, 27, was part of the response team battling the devastating fire which engulfed Mae’s Schools in Subryanville on Wednesday, March 5, 2025. He sustained severe injuries when portions of the roof and wall of the burning school building collapsed, resulting in reported fractures to his neck and impaired motor function. He was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries late Saturday night.

In a statement following his passing, Manbodh’s family members made a series of allegations about his treatment at the city hospital.

Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn, earlier today, hailed the fireman for his bravery and extended condolences to his family. He also promised, “An investigation will be conducted to identify the cause of loss of life and injuries resulting from this event.”

In addition to Manbodh, several other firefighters also sustained injuries during the Mae’s Schools blaze. Sub-Officer Ian Burnette, Sub-Officer Dwayne Waldron, and Fireman Jouner Morrison were successfully treated and subsequently discharged.

Meanwhile, the GPHC, in a statement this afternoon (Sunday, March 9, 2025), extended condolences to the family, colleagues, and the nation on the passing of the heroic firefighter who sustained injuries in the line of duty and was receiving medical care at the institution. The public hospital also indicated that an investigation has been launched immediately into the fireman’s death.

“At this time, we will not speculate on the circumstances surrounding his passing. However, we assure the public that GPHC remains steadfast in its commitment to the highest
standards of medical care. Our institution has a strong track record of successfully treating and discharging servicemen and women injured while carrying out their duties.”

“In response to concerns surrounding this case, GPHC has launched an immediate investigation, led by a panel chaired by a senior clinician from outside the institution. This panel comprises both external and internal medical specialists to ensure a thorough and objective review. We remain committed to transparency and will provide updates as the investigation progresses,” the GPHC stated.
