The Guyana Police Force (GPF) and the Georgetown Mayor and City Council (M&CC) have reaffirmed their commitment to working together to maintain safety, order, and cleanliness across the capital city.
Recently, several GPF officers met with Town Clerk Candace Nelson at City Hall as part of the Force’s ongoing community relations initiative.
The engagement aimed to strengthen coordination between the Police and the City Council in addressing key urban issues affecting the capital’s safety, traffic flow, and environment.
During the discussions, Town Clerk Nelson highlighted several priority areas for collaboration, including the removal of encumbrances and the clearing of illegal structures and obstacles that restrict public access. The parties also addressed the proliferation of unauthorised “No Parking” signs, something which the M&CC is already addressing.
The two sides also discussed the need for improved traffic management and litter control.
Both agencies further discussed developing strategies to better regulate street vending operations, particularly the removal of wooden pallets, freezers, and other obstructions left by vendors after business hours.
The meeting further explored opportunities for joint community engagement, with plans to involve residents and stakeholders in initiatives aimed at improving the city’s appearance and functionality.
According to a statement from the GPF, the initiative aligns with the shared goal of ensuring a safer, more orderly, and accessible Georgetown for all citizens.
