The Ministry of Public Works has announced an interim cargo arrangement to ensure the continued delivery of cargo and essential supplies to Port Kaituma while normal transport services remain affected.
Under the temporary measure, an open barge will be used exclusively to transport cargo and essential supplies to the Region One community.
No passengers will be accommodated on the service.
Loading of cargo will commence on Saturday, July 25, at the Kingston Goods Wharf, with the barge scheduled to depart Georgetown for Port Kaituma on Monday, July 27 at 5:00 p.m.
The ministry is urging businesses, suppliers and residents to ensure that all weather-sensitive items are securely packaged, as the cargo will be transported via an open barge and exposed to the elements during the voyage.
The temporary service is being provided free of charge as part of the government’s efforts to maintain the steady flow of goods and essential supplies to Port Kaituma.
