Ganja farms, valued over $70M, destroyed by police

Ranks of the Guyana Police Force (GPF) recently conducted a joint eradication exercise at Kuyarakuru Creek and Sabina Point, Upper Berbice River, where they destroyed ganja farms, valued over $70 million.

The operation involved ranks from the Narcotics Branch, Regional Division 6.

During the exercise the ranks discovered four separate cannabis farms covering a total of approximately sixteen acres. The farms contained an estimated 95,000 cannabis plants ranging from two (2) to seven (7) feet in height.

A makeshift camp measuring 30 by 20 feet was also found at the location. The camp contained approximately 90 pounds of dried cannabis.

The cannabis plants, dried cannabis and the makeshift camp were all destroyed by fire.

The estimated street value of the narcotics destroyed is approximately seventy million, nine hundred and sixty-eight thousand, one hundred and sixteen Guyana dollars ($70,968,116).

Of this amount, the cannabis plants are valued at GYD$32,186,000 while the dried cannabis is valued at GYD$38,782,116.

Investigations are continuing.
