The United States Government has condemned the recent invasion of a Venezuelan naval vessel into Guyana’s waters, where US oil giant ExxonMobil is operating.
At about 07:00h, this morning (Saturday, March 1, 2025), a Venezuelan Coast Guard vessel, identified as ABV Guaiquerí PO-11 (IMO 4695542), entered Guyana’s waters and approached a tanker near the Prosperity Floating Production Storage and Offloading vessel (FPSO) that is operating in the Stabroek Block, Offshore Guyana, by ExxonMobil.
Via a transmitted radio message, the Venezuelan vessel informed the FPSO that it was operating in “disputed international waters”.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the US Department of State’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs condemned the threat to both ExxonMobil and Guyana.
“Venezuelan naval vessels threatening ExxonMobil’s floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit is unacceptable and a clear violation of Guyana’s internationally-recognized maritime territory,” the social media post stated.
The US authorities went on to say, “Further provocation will result in consequences for the Maduro regime. The United States reaffirms its support for Guyana’s territorial integrity and the 1899 arbitral award.”
During a broadcast to the nation earlier today, President Dr Irfaan Ali condemned this recent act of aggression by Venezuela, noting that Guyana has already activated a diplomatic response by informing bilateral partners, including the US, as well as key regional and international bodies.
