Director of National Border Patrol and former APNU+AFC member Daniel Seeram was on Friday found guilty of assaulting his former wife, approximately three years after he was charged with the offence.
Seeram, a former Region Four Chairman, was convicted following a trial before Magistrate Abigail Gibbs at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court. Following the verdict, Seeram was remanded to prison. He is scheduled to return to court on November 2, 2026, for sentencing.
The charge stemmed from an incident on September 11, 2023, at a residence the couple shared in Cummings Lodge, Georgetown. Seeram was accused of assaulting his then-wife, causing her grievous bodily harm.
He was initially granted $50,000 bail after pleading not guilty to the charge. According to reports, Seeram returned home in the early hours of the morning on the day of the incident, after which an argument erupted between him and his then-wife.
The disagreement escalated into a physical altercation, during which both parties were reportedly involved in a scuffle.
Seeram was also accused of brandishing a licensed firearm during the incident. His then-wife subsequently reported the matter to police, leading to Seeram’s arrest and eventual charge.
