Former Minister of Finance Winston Jordan arrived this morning at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court to face a charge of misconduct in public office.

The charge is brought against him by the Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) and is in relation to controversial land sales under the former APNU+AFC administration.

It is alleged that Jordan between Tuesday, 25th February, 2020 and Thursday, 11th June 2020, willfully misconducted himself by acting recklessly when he signed vesting order # 69 of 2020.

The charge detailed that this order vested over five acres of land situated at Plantation Goedverwagting and Sparendaam, East Coast Demerara, valued $150,000,000 for $2,475,000, being sold at a price that was grossly under value to such a degree as to amount to an abuse of public trust and without reasonable cause or justification.

The former minister appeared before Magistrate Fabayo Azore and was not required to plead; he was released on $150,000 bail.

Jordan was represented by attorneys Roysdale Forde and Dawn Cush.

He is expected to return to court on April 23.
