Fisherman remanded to prison for ammunition possession

Charged: Mathis Jacobis

Mathis Jacobis, a 33-year-old fisherman of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara and Paramakatoi Village, Region #8 (Potaro-Siparuni), has been charged with Possession of Ammunition Without a Licence.

The charge was laid under Section 16(2)(a) of the Firearms Act, Chapter 16:05, in relation to four live 12-gauge cartridges that were found in his possession.

Earlier today (Friday, June 12, 2026), Jacobis appeared before Magistrate Omadatt Chandan at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court, where the charge was read to him. He pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison.

The matter was adjourned to July 2, 2026.
