Essequibo man sentenced to 4 years in jail for TIP offense

TIPForty – Four – year old Chateram Persaud, owner of Soca Paradise Disco at Columbia on the Essequibo Coast was sentenced to four years imprisonment today, Tuesday June 25 by Essequibo Magistrate Sunil Scarce after he was found guilty of Trafficking in Persons.

He appeared before the Magistrate in the Anna Regina court and was found guilty, following a trial.

According to Police reports, between November 10 and December 14 last year Persaud was engaged in sexual exploitation of an Amerindian girl, who was a minor at the time at his Soca Paradise Disco at Columbia Village.

The defendant was represented by Attorney – at – Law Mr. Cecil Solomon. During the trial, Prosecutor Krishnadat Ramana called four witnesses to testify.
