Leyland Reece, 53, of Smythfield, New Amsterdam, Berbice, was this morning killed in an accident within the township.
Reece was riding an electric bike at around 06:15hrs along the Princess Elizabeth Road, when he was reportedly struck down by a motorcar PAB 2622 driven by a 37-year-old man of Cumberland, East Canje, Berbice.
Reece received injuries about his body and was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital by public-spirited citizens in an unconscious condition, where he succumbed to his injuries whilst receiving medical treatment.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver, but no trace of alcohol was found. Nevertheless, the driver is presently in custody, assisting with the investigation.
