Dredge owner, worker die after mining pit collapses

Two persons are now dead after the mining pit in which they were working reportedly collapsed on Wednesday evening. The incident reportedly occurred at Moonlight Backdam, Kamarang, Upper Mazaruni, Region Seven.

The dead men have been identified as 38-year-old Trayon Hastings of Kamarang Landing and Rocky Norton. The dredge is owned by Hastings while Norton was his employee.

While information about the incident remains sketchy, iNew understands that another miner alerted others about the incident.

Several persons rushed to the area but after hours of search, the bodies of the two men were retrieved. An investigation is underway.
