DJ, selector remanded for inciting rape at Soesdyke bar

Two men have been charged and remanded to prison for allegedly inciting rape committed on a 20-year-old girl at Raghoo’s Bat at Soesdyke Junction on July 13.

They are Leon Defreitas, a 36-year-old deejay from Kuru Kururu, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, and Ryan Rajnarine, a 30-year-old office assistant and music selector from Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.

The duo appeared at the Friendship Magistrate’s Court where they were not required to plead to the charge which was laid under Section 3(3) of the Sexual (Offenses) Act Chapter 8:03.

They were remanded to prison until August 18.

The victim alleged that she was drugged and raped by three males. The incident was captured on camera and widely circulated on social media, sparking widespread public outrage.

The bar where the incident occurred has since been shut down by authorities and several persons including the bartender and owner were called in for questioning.

The prime suspect, Barry Sullivan, is wanted by the police. A wanted bulletin is currently circulating for his arrest.
