President Dr Irfaan Ali has called for the completion of the digitisation of the Materials Management Unit (MMU) at the Ministry of Health, warning that “if it is not done by this year end, then some people will have to find a new road to walk on”.
He made the remark whilst addressing a gathering of stakeholders at the commissioning of the Bath Regional Hospital in Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice).
“I’ve mandated that we must have a modern, tech-driven Materials Management Unit. The government is spending on having the drugs and medical supply and I don’t want to hear that it is not available. The days for that is coming to an end and coming to an end quickly,” the president emphasised.
The MMU is a unit within the Ministry of Health responsible for the procurement, storage, and distribution of medical supplies and equipment across the country’s healthcare system. It plays a crucial role in ensuring that hospitals and other healthcare facilities have the necessary resources to provide adequate care.
