A Cuban national was electrocuted on Tuesday morning, while two other persons were injured after they came into a power line at a new development in Houston, near Caneview Avenue.
Based on reports received, the men were on a scaffold when it reportedly titled and came into contact with overhead power lines. The Cuban national was pronounced dead at the scene, while the injured persons were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where they are being treated.
Guyana Power and Light Inc. (GPL) in a release stated that it is aware of the tragic accident that occurred in the New Houston area, where scaffolding reportedly rolled away from a building and came into contact with one of our 13.8 kV primary distribution lines.
The incident regrettably resulted in the death of one person and injuries to at least two others.
“GPL extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased during this difficult time. GPL also expresses sympathy to those injured and hopes for their full and speedy recovery,” the release from GPL added.
Meanwhile, GPL reminds contractors, workers, and members of the public to exercise extreme caution when operating near the company’s electrical lines, poles, and other network infrastructure.
“Appropriate safety measures must always be maintained to prevent similar tragedies,” it added.
