See full statement from the Association of Chinese Enterprises in Guyana:

The Association of Chinese Enterprises in Guyana have always been committed to deepening China-Guyana economic and trade cooperation, operating in compliance with local laws and regulations, integrating into local communities, and fulfilling corporate social responsibilities.

In the transportation of construction materials for relevant infrastructure projects, Chinese enterprises initially cooperated smoothly with local transport providers. However, as project demand increased, local transportation capacity became insufficient for large-volume and continuous delivery, while some providers experienced frequent delays or suspended services on weekends and public holidays, causing interruptions and affecting project schedules.

To avoid project delays, Chinese enterprises invested in purchasing vehicles and establishing their own transport fleets solely to ensure project delivery and fulfill commitments to the Government and people of Guyana, not to seize the local market. These transport fleets continue to prioritize hiring hundreds of the local drivers, who make up the vast majority of drivers, while providing stable jobs, lawful pay and training. The Association calls on all parties to view the matter objectively, strengthen communication, and work together to support Guyana’s development and enhance China-Guyana friendship.
