AK assault rifle, two magazines found at Sophia

See full statement from the Guyana Police Force:

Police are investigating the discovery of a firearm and magazines, which were found on Wednesday August 5, 2026 about 02:30hrs at ‘C’ Field, Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

Enquiries revealed that ranks, acting on information received, proceeded to an empty plot of land in the area, where a search was conducted.

During the search, ranks discovered one AK assault rifle with its serial number filed off, along with two AK magazines, inside a bag which was found in a dry drain. No ammunition was found.

The firearm and magazines were taken into Police custody and escorted to the Turkeyen Police Station, where they were lodged pending investigation.

No arrest has been made.

Investigations are ongoing.
