Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder of a 48-year-old man who was gunned down late Thursday night at California Square, East Ruimveldt, Georgetown.
The victim, identified as Gavin Major, a driver, of Charles Street, Charlestown, was reportedly shot and killed around 23:15hrs.
Reports are that Major was in the company of his cousin, Marlon Hinds, at the time of the incident. The two were travelling in a silver motorcar, licence plate PWW 1025, when they passed the home of the alleged suspect, identified as Nevin Eversley, a 30-year-old labourer of East Ruimveldt.
Police said as the vehicle passed Eversley’s residence, three loud explosions believed to be gunshots were heard. Eversley was reportedly standing in front of his gate at the time.
Major allegedly reversed the vehicle and stopped in front of the suspect’s house, exiting the car to confront Eversley about the gunfire. An argument ensued, during which Eversley, armed with a handgun, reportedly discharged two rounds at Major, striking him in the lower abdomen and left hand.
The suspect fled the scene on foot in a southern direction, taking the firearm with him.
Hinds, with assistance from others nearby, transported Major to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he later succumbed to his injuries.
