Having failed to stop the extradition hearing at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts through the Court of Appeal, United States-sanctioned and indicted Opposition leader Azruddin Mohamed and his father, Nazar Mohamed, on Tuesday approached the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) seeking to halt the proceedings.
The two men, through their lawyers filed an application for a stay over the weekend, which was heard by the CCJ on Tuesday. However, the application was refused.
Mohamed and his father also sought special leave from the CCJ to appeal a ruling handed down by the Court of Appeal last week, which paved the way for the committal hearing to proceed.
The Court of Appeal had ruled that the hearing could continue, but directed the magistrate to embargo her decision.
The extradition proceedings are being heard at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on September 3.
