A Cadet Officer was placed before Chief Magistrate Priya Beharry charged with simple larceny. Twenty – five – year old Sherwin Hilken of Triumph East Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge.
It is alleged that on August 29 at the Police Officer Mess Eve Leary, he stole one diamond ring valued at $ 500,000 and $15,000 cash property of Cadet Officer Ganesh Pooran.
According to the prosecutor, Pooran secured the articles in a draw in his and later in the day, he discovered the items were missing. He then made a report and the following day the articles were returned by the defendant.
Given the fact that the money and ring were recovered, the Chief Magistrate granted bail in the sum of $100,000 and he is to return to court on September 30. [Royan Abrams]
