Police are investigating an alleged attempted murder which occurred on Monday August 10, 2026, about 21:30hrs at Agatash Village, Bartica, Essequibo River, involving a 57-year-old housewife and a 19-year-old gold miner, both of Agatash Village, allegedly committed by a 30-year-old miner of the said village.

Preliminary investigations revealed that during an incident at the location, the two victims were allegedly attacked by a 30-year-old man, during which they sustained injuries.

Both victims were taken to the Bartica Regional Hospital, where they were examined, treated and admitted as patients. The 19-year-old was subsequently referred to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital for further medical attention. His condition is regarded as serious, while the 57-year-old woman is in a stable condition.

The suspect was subsequently apprehended and handed over to the Police. He is presently in Police custody assisting with the investigation.

Investigations are ongoing.
