Police are investigating a shooting incident which occurred on Monday August 10, 2026, about 19:30hrs at West Front Road, West Ruimveldt, Georgetown, during which two sisters, ages 26 and 31, were injured.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the two women were seated along West Front Road when an altercation ensued between them and a 48-year-old security guard of Bent Street, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.
During the altercation, the 48-year-old security guard reportedly discharged several rounds from a firearm which was in his possession, resulting in the 26-year-old woman receiving gunshot injuries to her left ankle and upper left leg, while the 31-year-old woman received gunshot injuries to her right foot and left leg.
Both women were taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation, where they are presently receiving medical attention. Their conditions are listed as stable.
The 48-year-old man was subsequently contacted at a private hospital, where he was receiving medical attention for an injury received. His condition is also listed as stable.
The firearm involved in the incident was identified as a licensed Glock 19 pistol, for which the 48-year-old security guard is the licensed firearm holder. The firearm, along with two magazines containing a total of 27 live 9mm rounds of ammunition, was retrieved and lodged. One spent shell was also recovered at the scene.
CCTV cameras were seen in the area and will be reviewed.
Investigations are ongoing.
