pieciNews’ latest internet poll found that 91 percent respondents support a ban on the importation and use of Styrofoam in Guyana.

The garbage situation in Guyana, particularly Georgetown has led to government and other stakeholders looking at new measures to manage solid waste.

The poll revealed that only 8 percent were against the ban while a mere 1 percent was undecided.

The indiscriminate use and dumping of Styrofoam and plastics along with poor collection systems were found to be the major contributors to the garbage problem.

The government recently announced the implementation of measures that will lead to a ban on Styrofoam in Guyana.
