Police are investigating a ‘hit and run’ fatal accident which occurred at about 18:30hrs on Sunday (March 2nd, 2025) on Line Path public road in Corentyne Berbice, which resulted in the death of a nine (9) months old baby girl Eli Surujnarine.
The accident involved a white Fielder wagon vehicle and an electric cycle.
Eli’s father, 17-year-old Tushan Surujnarine, was riding the electric cycle at the time, with Eli and his mother — 19-year-old Kavita Bedsan, as pillion riders.
Investigation revealed that the electric cycle was proceeding north along the western side of Line Path road when the Tushan suddenly felt an impact on the rear of his cycle which caused him, along with Kavita and their 9-month-old baby, to fall on the roadway and receive injuries.
They were picked up in an unconscious condition and conveyed to the Skeldon Public Hospital where they were seen and examined by a doctor who treated and referred them to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital. There, they were also treated by a doctor who later referred them to the Georgetown Hospital. The baby died on his way, at about 09:45hrs on Monday March 3rd, 2025.
The car has since been located by Police but the driver has not been arrested as yet. Investigations continue.
