
An eight-year-old girl is now dead and her father hospitalised with a fractured skull after they were struck down by a drunk driver.
Dead is Supriya Khan of Naamryck Koker, East Bank Essequibo, while her injured father has been identified as 32-year-old Imran Khan, also of Naamryck Koker.
The accident occurred at about 15:05 hours on the Parika Backdam (main access road), East Bank Essequibo.
Based on police reports, Imran was riding an Electric Cycle (bike) with Supriya as his pillion rider. They were proceeding East along the Parika Backdam road when Motor Pick-Up, GAB 8162, which was proceeding in the same direction behind the electric bike, attempted to pass them and, in the process, collided with the e-bike.
As a result of the collision, Imran Khan and Supriya Khan fell onto the road surface and received injuries to their bodies.
Supriya Khan was picked up by the driver of the Pick-Up in an unconscious state and taken to the De Kinderen Public Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.
Imran Khan, who was also taken to the said hospital, was admitted, suffering from a fractured skull.
The body of 8-year-old Supriya was escorted to the Ezekiel Funeral Home, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Meanwhile, breathalyser tests conducted on the driver, 22-year-old Arif Alli of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, showed his BAC at 128% and 134% micrograms. This is way above the Legal Limit of .35 micrograms.
Investigations are ongoing.
