Work on the truck parking facility at Meten-Meer-Zorg, West Coast Demerara, is progressing.
Housing Minister Collin Croal conducted a site visit on Friday and expressed satisfaction with the progress of the ongoing works.
Spanning 16 acres, the facility is 65% complete, with six contractors actively engaged in its development. Once completed, it will accommodate about 300 trucks, providing designated space for commercial vehicle parking and helping reduce heavy-duty vehicle parking in residential communities.

The Meten-Meer-Zorg facility is one of two such projects currently being undertaken in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara).
The second facility at Hermitage, Wales on the West Bank of Demerara, is approximately 75% complete.
Minister Croal has indicated that a management committee will be established to oversee the facilities’ operations, while the operational guidelines and proposed fee structure will be outlined in the coming weeks.
The initiative forms part of the Government’s wider efforts to improve infrastructure and provide designated, organised and secure spaces for commercial vehicle operators.
In addition to Region Three, similar truck parking facilities are also being constructed across other coastal regions.

Already, a $500 million Truck Parking and Auto Zone, spanning approximately 14.1 acres, was developed at Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and will be the first to come on stream once the operational arrangements are finalised. This facility will accommodate at least 300 trucks. It will also address concerns raised by residents about automotive activities, including vehicle repairs and spray painting.
There is also a second truck parking lot currently under construction at Enmore, East Coast Demerara (ECD) as well. That second facility in Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) is being developed on approximately 30 acres of land, and completion is slated for November 2026.
Another facility is being developed at Palmyra, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne).
Moreover, planned future works will see at least one other truck parking and automotive service zone on the Corentyne in the vicinity of the Number 75-76 Villages, as well as another in Region Four along the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.
