One day after the brutal murder of seven-year-old Adriel Aftab Mohamed and the attempted murder of his great-grandmother, the police have arrested the suspected perpetrator.
This was confirmed by the Deputy Commissioner of Police and Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum, on Saturday, who stated that the alleged suspect was arrested at his residence in Region Three (Essequibo Island-West Demerara).
“He was arrested earlier today and is currently being interviewed by detectives,” Blanhum added.
The throat of the seven-year-old child was slashed, and his great-grandmother was stabbed in the neck during an apparent home invasion on Friday at their Phase 3, Zeelugt New Housing Scheme, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) home. The lifeless body of the child was found lying in a pool of blood, while his great-grandmother was found stabbed in the neck and lying on the ground at about 05:05 on Friday.
According to reports received, a relative went to the home, where he discovered the 72-year-old woman injured and the child motionless inside the house. The injured woman was taken to the De Kinderen Regional Hospital, where she was admitted as a patient. Her condition is listed as stable.
On the other hand, the child suffered a gaping wound to his neck. A knife, suspected to have been used during the incident, was recovered at the scene.
