5 injured as fire engine crashes into day care

Five men attached to the Guyana Fire Service (GFS) are now hospitalized after the fire tender in which they were travelling veered off the road and crashed into a day care under construction at De Kinderin, West Cast Demerara (WCD).

The injured men were identified as the driver, Section Leader Troy Gravesande, 45, along with Adrian Benjamin, 24; Quinton Damon, 36; Errol Hyman, 42; and Bryant Bobb, 20- all firemen.

Based on reported received,  the fire tender, PRR 1635 which responded to a fire at Parika, East Bank Essequibo was returning to the Leonora Fire Station when it suddenly veered off the road at about 14:30h.

As a result, the vehicle received extensive damage while its occupants were admitted patients at the West Demerara Regional Hospital nursing injuries about their bodies. The men are said to be in stable condition. An investigation has been launched.
