Minister of Education Sonia Parag on Monday opened the Foulis Learning Centre which is intended to nurture research abilities and strengthen the reading skills of early learners.
The $27 million investment reflects government’s ongoing commitment to creating safe and inclusive spaces where communities can access the resources they need to thrive.
The facility is designed not only as a centre for learning but also as a hub for interaction, recreation, and community building.
Equipped with a collection of books, board games, and sporting equipment, the centre is designed to encourage both educational advancement and recreational activities. It will provide opportunities for personal development, social interaction, and the strengthening of community bonds.
As part of the commissioning exercise, Minister Parag also handed over three electronic tablets to be used at the centre. These devices will support digital learning, giving community members additional tools to build knowledge and skills.
Minister Parag emphasised that education must extend beyond the classroom. By bringing resources directly into communities, she said the Ministry is ensuring that every Guyanese has greater access to opportunities for growth, empowerment, and lifelong learning.
Meanwhile, Minister Parag encouraged residents to take advantage of the government facilities and opportunities to improve their lives.
“This centre is not just there for you to sit and read books; it is for you to learn through technology, it is for you to learn through group and team effort. It is for you to learn about the world,” she said.
The facility was established following Vice President Dr Bharrat Jagdeo’s visit to the community.
