14 days jail for man stole Cadbury Chocolates

[www.inewsguyana.com] – A 54-year-old man charged with simple larceny was sentenced to 14 days imprisonment by Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry.

Derrick Persaud pleaded guilty to the charge, which stated that on July 9 at Bounty Supermarket, Water Street, he stole bars of Cadbury Chocolate valued $2,286.

He was also charged with using threatening language to Joanna Abrugo, where a breach of the peace may occasioned. He pleaded not guilty to that offence. Police Prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the Court that Persaud was convicted several times on similar offences in both county of Demerara and Berbice.

As it relates to the threatening language charge, he will return before Magistrate Dylon Bess for trial on July 14.
