Police are investigating a fatal accident which occurred on Sunday May 3, 2026 about 18:16hrs, at the junction of the Mandela to Eccles Highway and Rome Access Road, involving motorcycle CR 5455, driven by Andra Jnr Lewis, a 35-year-old male of Guyhoc Park, South Ruimveldt, Georgetown and motor lorry GAM 1442, driven by a 24-year-old male of D’Edward Village, West Coast Berbice.
Initial enquiries revealed that the motorcyclist was proceeding south along the eastern drive lane of the Mandela Avenue to Eccles Highway, while the motor lorry was proceeding east along the northern drive lane of Rome Access Road. At the intersection of the Mandela Avenue to Eccles Highway and Rome Access Road, the driver of the motor lorry allegedly drove into the path of the motorcyclist, resulting in the front portion of the motorcycle colliding with the left-side rear portion of the motor lorry.
As a result of the collision, the motorcyclist sustained injuries about his body. Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned and the motorcyclist was examined by a doctor on duty and pronounced dead at the scene.
The body was escorted to the Davis Memorial Crematorium and Funeral Home Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver, and no trace of alcohol was found in his breath.
The driver is presently in police custody assisting with investigations.
Investigations are ongoing.
