The Regional Democratic Council (RDC) of Region Four (Demerara-Mahaica) has procured Starlink internet devices to provide full internet services to several schools along the Linden-Soesdyke Highway.

This is in keeping with the vision of President Dr Irfaan Ali and the manifesto promises of the Peoples Progressive Party/Civic to build an inclusive digital society and develop Amerindian communities.

The schools that stand to benefit are the Yarrowkabra Nursery, the Kuru Kururu Nursery, Moblissa Primary, Silver Hill Primary, Yarrowkabra Primary, Kuru Kuru Primary, Long Creek Primary, St. Cuthbert’s Primary, Kuru Kururu Primary, and Dora Secondary.

The region’s Department of Education located at Friendship, East Bank Demerara (EBD) will also benefit under this programme.

According to the RDC, the initiative will strengthen digital connectivity in these communities, giving students and teachers greater access to online educational resources, digital learning platforms and other tools that support modern teaching and learning.

The systems are expected to be installed and fully operational for the commencement of the new school term, ensuring that students and educators can immediately benefit from improved connectivity.

This approximately $3 million investment forms part of Region Four’s continued efforts to ensure that geography does not determine access to opportunity and that children in hinterland and highway communities have access to the digital resources necessary to learn, grow and compete.
