1 dead as Main St. business/residence destroyed by early morning fire

A 77-year-old businessman is suspected to have been burnt alive early Monday morning after the building which housed his living quarters and two businesses on Main and Lamaha Street, Georgetown mysteriously caught alight.

Suspected dead is Yusuf Sankar.

One of Sankar’s sons had reportedly insisted that his father was in the burning building.

Based on information received, a body suspected to that of Sankar was removed after fire fighters contained the fire, which reportedly started around 5-6 am.

Investigations are currently ongoing.
