Bibi Shazida Hanif, 45, of Samaroo Dam, Pouderoyen, West Bank Demerara, was this morning brutally murdered in her home.
Police say Hanif, a cleaner attached to Rapid Oil Field at Halliburton, was found lying in a pool of blood next to her bed, bearing stab wounds to her back.
The discovery was made just after 5:00hrs, shortly after Hanif had reportedly called her current partner to request a ride to work.
According to police reports, Hanif placed a call at approximately 04:44hrs to her boyfriend, Hayden Xavier – a 44-year-old Trinidadian and Inspector with Rapid Oil Field – requesting that he pick her up from her residence as she was running late.
Xavier, who said he was already en route, later attempted to call her back while crossing the Demerara Harbour Bridge, only for the call to be answered by someone else.
On the other end of the line, he alleges, was Martin True, Hanif’s 53-year-old ex-husband, who reportedly told him, “I now fix she deh.”
Xavier immediately reported the matter to the Vreed-en-Hoop Police Station before heading to the house.
When police arrived at the residence, they found Hanif’s lifeless body. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the West Demerara Regional Hospital. Her body was later transported to Ezekiel Funeral Home, where it awaits a post-mortem examination.
Less than four hours later, acting on intelligence, police apprehended the prime suspect.
Ranks conducted a stop-and-search operation on motorcar PZZ 3660 at No. 66 Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice, around 08:30hrs. The vehicle, driven by 29-year-old Abdul Jameer True of Parika, East Bank Essequibo, was found to be carrying Martin True in the backseat.
True, a resident of Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, was arrested at the scene, cautioned, and taken into custody at the Springlands Police Station.
Hanif had reportedly been living alone at the Samaroo Dam residence after moving out of her boyfriend’s home in Providence two weeks ago. Her 18-year-old son, with whom she shared the house, was said to be spending time with his father in Berbice at the time of the incident.
Investigations are ongoing.
