Woman, four others busted with ‘ganja’

The Guyana Police Force has arrested a woman and four males in separate marijuana (ganja) busts on Wednesday – at Belle Vue Village, East Bank Berbice; and Itaballi and Tabatinga in Lethem (Region Nine).
At about 11:20hrs Wednesday, Police ranks, acting on information received, conducted a search on a camp at Belle Vue Village, where 4 kilograms of marijuana were found.
Reports are that, acting on a ‘tip off’, a party of police officers went to a small camp located along Coconut Dam in Belle Vue village where a 24-year-old farmer of Heat Burn Village, East Bank Berbice and a 33-year-old cane harvester also of Heat Burn Village were found. However, both men could not give an explanation for being at that location. A search was carried out on the farmhouse where a bag was found. The bag allegedly contained five plastic parcels where portions of the illegal plant were found. The two men were taken into custody.
At about 12:00hrs Wednesday, Police ranks at a checkpoint at Itaballi conducted a search on a man in whose possession was found 894 grams of marijuana. He has been arrested and is in police custody.
The Police also reported that it conducted a search on a house at Tabatinga, Lethem, during which 5 kilograms of marijuana were found.
A man and a woman were arrested and are in police custody assisting with the investigations. Charges will be made shortly against the five in custody from the separate busts on Wednesday.
