Hire car driver shot, robbed in Durban Backlands

The hire car driver who was shot and robbed by bandits early this morning  is presently in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation. The man underwent emergency surgery to remove a bullet from his abdomen after he was shot during a brazen robbery and carjacking in Durban Backlands, Georgetown.

Leroy Blair, 38,  was reportedly shot by one of three bandits on motorcycles after which they relieved him of an undisclosed sum of cash and his motorcar.

Based on reports received, the now injured man travelled to the area to drop off someone when he was attacked and shot. He was picked up by public spirited citizens who rushed him to the hospital.

The police, in a statement this evening, said the injured man lives at 528 Block X, Liliendaal, East Coast Demerara. There are also reports that the man is actually from Stanleytown, West Bank Demerara.
The Guyana Police Force said the shooting occurred about 06:30hrs this morning at Durban Backlands. Investigations are continuing.
