Update: Fire allegedly started by patient at GPHC’s Psychiatric Ward

The fire which erupted at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) this morning was reportedly started by a patient of the psychiatric ward.

The blaze began at around 09:30hrs at the facility’s Thomas and New Market Street location.

Damages are currently being assessed; everyone escaped unharmed.

Firefighters faced immense difficulties accessing the building, due to the traffic congestion around the hospital.

An investigation is currently ongoing.
