Two teenagers, ages 19 and 17 , are among three young men taken into custody for the murderi of 69-year-old Mohammed Shaheed, known as “Fizal” or “Artist,” from Parker Street, Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The incident reportedly took place between Saturday , May 16, 2026, at about 21:00h and Tuesday, May 19, 2026, at about 13:00h.
Based on reports received, the deceased was last seen alive on Saturday , May 16, 2026.
However, on Tuesday, May 19, checks were made on him after calls to his phone went unanswered. It was then that his motionless body was found in his home and was in a state of decomposition.
A post -mortem was subsequently conducted on the remains of the pensioner by Government Pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, who determined the cause of death to be a brain hemorrhage due to multiple blunt trauma to the head.
Meanwhile, due to diligent investigative work, intelligence gathering , and the use of available technology, investigators were able to advance the investigation and identify several persons of interest.
As a result, a 19-year-old construction worker from Parker Street, Providence, EBD, and a 22-year-old porter from Back Street, Peter’s Hall, EBD, were arrested and placed into custody on Monday, May 25, 2026.
Further inquiries led to the arrest of a 17-year-old laborer, also from Parker Street, Providence, EBD, on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.
He is being treated as a juvenile , and the process is being conducted in accordance with the Juvenile Justice Act.
The other suspects remain in custody , assisting with the investigation.
