Taxi driver shot in head whilst driving car along ECD

Police are investigating an alleged incident of discharging a loaded firearm with intent to commit murder which occurred on Monday January 12, 2026 about 23:45hrs at Triumph, East Coast Demerara in the vicinity of the Regional Democratic Council, Region # 4.

The incident involved a 31-year-old Taxi Driver of Annandale West, East Coast Demerara who is currently hospitalised in a critical condition.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was travelling west along the public road in a motor car with another male when he was allegedly pursued by several motorcyclists.

While proceeding along the public road, a loud sound was heard and the right-side glass of the vehicle shattered after which the victim reportedly lost consciousness and the vehicle collided with a metal rail.

He was later transported to the Enmore Regional Hospital for medical attention, where it was confirmed that he sustained a gunshot wound to the head and remains in serious condition.

The motor vehicle involved was examined and lodged pending further investigations. CCTV footage from the area was canvassed and extracted and several persons were contacted and questioned.

No arrests have been made at this time as police are following several leads. Investigations are ongoing.
