Speeding motorcyclist dies after colliding with cow

The cow that was involved in the accident

Twenty-five-year-old Jamal Hughes was in the wee hours of Monday killed after the motorcycle he was driving collided with an unbranded cow along the Number 41 Stanleytown Public Road, New Amsterdam, Berbice.

Hughes of Glasgow Village, East Bank Berbice (EBB) was at the time driving a motorcycle, CP 2700 with Marashia Dehart,24, of Stanleytown, New Amsterdam as his pillion rider.

Police stated that Hughes was proceeding along Number 41 Stanleytown Public Road at a fast rate when the motorcycle collided with the unbranded cow which was crossing the roadway. At the time, both Hughes and Dehart were not wearing safety helmets.

However, as a result of the collision, they fell onto the road surface where they received injuries about their bodies.

Hughes was picked up in a semi-conscious condition, while the pillion rider was picked up in a conscious and taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital.

“The driver was seen and examined by a doctor on duty, who treated him for injuries to his head and other parts of his body. He later succumbed to his injuries at about 01:55 hrs,” the Police stated. The pillion rider was treated and sent away.

Investigations are ongoing.
