An Intelligence Officer, along with ranks from the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU), conducted an intelligence-led operation in the Sophia ‘D’ Field area at about 14:00 hours on Friday, during which a 22-year-old taxi driver was nabbed for possession of an unlicensed firearm and matching rounds of ammunition.

The ranks observed a white Allion motor car bearing registration number PAG 3549 parked on the western side of ‘D’ Field access road, which runs north to south. The vehicle was unoccupied at the time and all windows were up and the doors locked. A group of males were seen liming near the car. One of the ranks approached and inquired from the individuals as to who the owner of the vehicle was.

Tyrese Blair, a 22-year-old taxi driver from Sophia, came forward and told the ranks that he was the owner of the vehicle. As a result, a search was conducted on his person, but nothing illegal was found. Blair was asked to open the car, and with the use of a key, he complied.

During a search of the vehicle, one black Beretta 9mm pistol (without serial number) containing one magazine and five live 9mm rounds of ammunition was found concealed under the gear shift booth located between the two front seats of the car.

Tyrese Blair was asked if he was the holder of a Firearm License, and he said “No”. He was told of the offences committed, arrested and escorted to the Turkeyen Police Station along with the car, firearm and ammunition.

He remains in Police custody as investigations continue.
