The ANSA McAL Group of Companies on Friday turned the sod, which marks the commencement of construction for its Chateau Margot Mall-a transformative mixed-use development poised to redefine Guyana’s retail experience and celebrate its cultural heritage along the East Coast Demerara corridor.
With a legacy spanning over three decades in Guyana, ANSA McAL has been integral player in the nation’s development, investing in the distribution, media, automotive and the construction sectors.
The Chateau Margot Mall, represents the Group’s next bold investment in Guyana’s future, drawing on its full-service real estate expertise across feasibility, design, financing, construction, marketing and sales.
Strategically located along the East Coast corridor, the 110,000 sq. ft. mall will offer a dynamic mix of retail, dining, and entertainment options, masterfully designed by internationally acclaimed architect Varchi. Anchored by a flagship supermarket and featuring more than 60 retail outlets, food courts, and office spaces, the development reflects ANSA McAL’s continued confidence in Guyana’s economic trajectory and its commitment to long-term national growth.

Chairman of the ANSA McAL Group of Companies, Norman Sabga during his address stated, “This is more than a development, it is a testament to what regional expertise and local collaboration can achieve. As we mark 33 years in Guyana, we remain steadfast in our commitment to creating spaces that honour heritage, inspire connection, and energize national progress. Guyana’s moment is here and ANSA McAL is proud to walk this journey of progress and partnership together.”
However, President Dr. Irfaan Ali emphasized the importance of private sector partnerships in driving national development while preserving heritage, stating, “Projects like the Chateau Margot Mall embody our vision for transformation – one that revolves around a single core: human development, which is integrally linked to societal development.”
A signature feature of the development is its proximity to the historic Chateau Margot Chimney – an enduring emblem of Guyana’s industrial past. The chimney and the land on which it stands remain state-owned, and ANSA McAL is working in close collaboration with the National Trust of Guyana to ensure its integrity and heritage value are preserved throughout the project and beyond.
The surrounding public space will be thoughtfully enhanced to promote public access and appreciation, creating a meaningful space where history and modern progress stand proudly side by side.
Head of External Affairs & Managing Director, ANSA McAL Distribution Inc. Troy Cadogan, Guyana commented; “Today is about building a future rooted in partnership, pride, and possibility. The Château Margot Mall will be a space where Guyanese families, entrepreneurs, and communities thrive. It reflects ANSA McAL’s enduring commitment to national development and our belief in Guyana’s bold, transformative journey.”
In addition, Sector Head – Real Estate, ANSA McAL Limited, Joseph Rahael affirmed, “Our vision for Chateau Magot Mall is to deliver a best-in-class retail and community destination that enhances the lives of tenants, owners, and the wider community while respecting the Chimney’s historic significance.”
Beyond its retail and entertainment offerings, the mall will include over 24,000 sq. ft. of premium office suites and nearly 500 parking spaces, ensuring accessibility and convenience for visitors and tenants alike.
More than a commercial venture, the Chateau Margot Mall reflects ANSA McAL’s people-centric philosophy, building spaces that inspire connection, innovation, and shared prosperity.
