Chief Investment Officer Dr Peter Ramsaroop with members of the Guyana Youth Entrepreneurship Chamber and other officials at the mixer event on Friday
In keeping with his call for Guyanese to define their role in the country’s rapid development, Chief Investment Officer, Peter Ramsaroop, on Friday evening underscored the central role of young people; urging greater participation, collaboration, and preparedness as Guyana accelerates its economic transformation.
Delivering remarks at the inaugural mixer of the Guyana Youth Entrepreneurship Chamber (GYEC), held at the GAICO Corporate Office, Ramsaroop positioned youth entrepreneurship as a critical driver of national growth, noting that a significant portion of Guyana’s population falls within the 18–35 age bracket.
He encouraged young Guyanese to recognise the scale of opportunity currently unfolding, stressing that the country’s trajectory presents a unique moment for them to build, invest, and lead.
“If I was 18, 19, 20 or 21 today, I would not leave this country,” he said, pointing to expanding opportunities across sectors and the increasing demand for local talent and innovation.
“What we are seeing in Guyana today, and what is projected over the next decade, is unlike anything you will find elsewhere. If you’re sitting here thinking about leaving, I can tell you: we need you. We need the labour, the expertise, and the energy of our young people,” he stressed.
Drawing from his own experiences, Ramsaroop emphasised that success is not defined by one’s starting point, but by discipline, planning, and the ability to take advantage of opportunities. He urged young people to develop clear personal goals and actively align themselves with Guyana’s growth sectors, particularly agriculture, energy, and emerging service industries.
He further advised participants to “follow the money” by studying national priorities and understanding where investments are being made, noting that informed decision-making is key to entrepreneurial success.
Importantly, Ramsaroop also highlighted the value of collaboration, noting that strong networks, mentorship, and shared knowledge are essential to building sustainable businesses.
“Figure out where you fit and don’t be left behind,” he urged, encouraging young entrepreneurs to form partnerships to capitalise on opportunities.
“The question you’ve got to ask yourself tonight is… how do we work together to make this happen?”
The GYEC, which was launched at the Guyana Energy Conference and Supply Chain Expo earlier this year, was established to directly address the challenges faced by young entrepreneurs, including limited access to mentorship, networks, and opportunities.
Through initiatives such as its first mixer, the Chamber aims to create spaces where young people can connect, learn, and build, reinforcing the idea that entrepreneurship is not only about individual ambition but about collective growth.
The event brought together a diverse group of young professionals and entrepreneurs, highlighting the expanding presence of youth in business, innovation, and leadership across Guyana.
