Within the next 10 days, the 14 remaining squatters occupying the Cummings Park area, which falls within the flight zone of the Eugene F. Correia International Airport, will be relocated.
Chief Executive Officer of the Central Housing and Planning Authority (CHPA), Dr. Martin Pertab, on Friday visited the area and highlighted the importance of relocating the informal settlers due to the potential safety risks associated with the location.
Community Development Officer to the CEO, Rawle Aaron, said 14 settlers remain out of an initial 89, with several families already relocated to De Endragt and other communities along the East Coast of Demerara.
He explained that lots have already been identified and houses constructed at the relocation sites.
The remaining settlers have been given 10 days to vacate the area, with the CHPA working closely with residents to complete the relocation exercise.
Technical staff from the CH&PA also joined the CEO during the visit to the area.
