Prison officer placed on self bail – charged with assaulting teen at bus park

A 37-year-old prison officer was placed on self bail when he appeared yesterday before Magistrate Brenden Glasford at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court, to answer to a charge of assault.

George Solomon of Den Amstel, West Coast Demerara pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on October 7, 2016 at the route 44 mini-bus park, he assaulted 17-year-old Kia Grant.

The unrepresented defendant requested to be placed on reasonable bail since he is the sole breadwinner for his two young children.

Magistrate Glasford placed the prison officer on self bail and the matter will be called again on November 12, 2016 before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan. (Ramona Luthi)
