On March 18, 2025, President Dr Irfaan Ali made an impromptu pre-dawn visit to the eastern side of the new Demerara River Bridge and its approach road to assess the progress of work.
During the visit, the contractor, China Railway Construction (International) Limited, updated the President on measures taken to ensure timely completion. These include adding over 200 workers, including engineers, to expedite the construction of the main spans.
Once completed, the new bridge and extensive road upgrades along the East Bank of Demerara are expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and travel time.
