President Dr Irfaan Ali on Sunday urged political and civil movements across the country to unite with the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) as it advances its vision of building a modern Guyana.

He made the call during the commissioning ceremony of the US$10.8 million Guyana-China Friendship Park, where he detailed the development taking place in Region Three (Essequibo Islands-West Demerara).

The Head of State expressed that “life with the Peoples Progressive Party Civic in government is always better”, noting that he says so “unashamingly”.

“I say that with the greatest humility and the greatest honour. I thank those leaders who formed this magnificent movement that allow us to continue to serve and grow this beautiful country. And I extend an open invitation to the membership of every other single political and civil movement in this country to come on board with us as we build that momentous occasion in 1950 when the People’s Progressive Party Civic was formed, with all on board, all of Guyana on board. We are now opening the gates to once again bring all on board on the journey to a unified Guyana,” President Ali said.

100% support

Meanwhile, as he detailed the significant investments made by the PPP/C in Region Three, President Ali posited that “I see no reason why this region should not be supporting the People’s Progressive Party Civic 100%.”

“Not only because of what has been built, but because your conscience should not allow you to do otherwise. Not only because of what has been built, your conscience is an important indicator of your life and whether you’re alive. For some people may seem alive, but are completely dead because of their conscience. Let your conscience and your life beat in one, in unison. And if you allow that, the People’s Progressive Party Civic would beat in your heart and remind you that life with the People’s Progressive Party Civic in government is always better,” President Ali said.

“And if our love and investment cannot be appreciated in this region, let me just highlight to you what is going on even now,” the President added, as he outlined several major projects taking shape in Region Three.

Projects

One of these projects include the Del Conte Road, which the president reminded, “was a dream” that is now “actively under construction”.

The Del Conte Road project is a major infrastructure initiative aimed at creating a new land link between the coast and the interior, specifically running from Parika in Region Three to areas near Bartica in Region Seven.

President Ali added, “the four-lane road from Crane to Parika is about to commence and has already commenced with the construction of the highway bridges. The design for the four-lane road going back to Wales is actively under design. The Sand Hill Road’s work has already commenced.”

The President also spoke about the investments into new ports and marine facilities in the region, which he noted “will bring hundreds of millions of US dollars of business on this shore of the Demerara River”.

He also reminded of the international port facility being developed at Parika, noting that “our food will flow from Parika to the plates of resorts, hospitals, and restaurants in the Caribbean.”

The Guyanese leader also pointed to the Wales Industrial Estate, which will bring hundreds of employment opportunities to the region.

“Our glass factory that will be built with gas coming to shore in Region Three. The gas plant that will be built with gas coming to shore in Region Three. A data center that will serve not only Guyana but all of the region right here in Region Three. Our first fertiliser plant right here in Region Three,” the president outlined.

He also spoke about the construction of thousands of homes taking place in the region and plans to build another national stadium in the region.

Elections

Against this backdrop, President Ali reminded, “just for clarity, we are five years away from an election.”

“Those who have ears, let them hear. Those who have eyes, let them see. And those whose only intention is to hate, we pray that their hearts are open and that by the grace of God, love enters their soul and so too can they rejoice in the beauty, the pride, the prosperity, the development, and the rise of this beautiful nation, Guyana,” he expressed.
