The Guyana Police Force is investigating the death of Bachan Singh, a Police Sergeant of Airstrip Road, Non Pariel, East Coast Demerara, who reportedly took his own life.
Based on police reports, Singh attempted suicide on Saturday, May 23, 2026, around 14:00 hours at his home. He was subsequently taken to the Enmore Regional Hospital, where he was admitted as a patient in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).
However, Singh succumbed on Friday, May 29, 2026, at about 22:00 hours while receiving medical treatment at the ECD hospital.
According to police, a bottle suspected to have contained a poisonous substance was found at the location. The item was processed as part of the investigation.
Singh’s body was examined, and no marks of violence were seen. It is presently at the Enmore Regional Hospital Mortuary awaiting transportation to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, where it will await a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
