Ranks of the Guyana Police Force Regional Division 4 ‘C’ conducted an operation on Saturday resulting in multiple arrests and the seizure of more than 1.7 kilograms of suspected cannabis in the Sparendaam Police Station District. At a property in Better Hope South, police recovered 247 grams of leaves, seeds, and stems suspected to be cannabis from a 26-year-old gold miner of Britton Street, Plaisance.
An additional 63.5 grams of suspected cannabis was found inside a wardrobe belonging to a 48-year-old construction worker from the same area. Both men were arrested and transported to the Sparendaam Police Station, where the suspected narcotics were weighed in their presence and lodged as evidence. Further searches were conducted along Britton Street, Plaisance. Police discovered suspected cannabis concealed in a black plastic barrel in one yard and in a black plastic bag hidden among vegetation in another.
The substances weighed a total of 1,411 grams. They were taken to the Sparendaam Police Station, marked, sealed, and lodged. No arrests were made related to this discovery. Investigations are continuing.
