Police in Regional Division 4 ‘B’ are investigating an alleged Robbery Under Arms which occurred on Thursday March 19, 2026, about 19:55hrs at Providence Public Road, in the vicinity of the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge, East Bank Demerara, committed on two Chinese nationals of Eccles, East Bank Demerara.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the two men were walking north along the eastern carriageway on the pavement, heading to their residence, when they were approached by three identifiable males on a motorcycle.

One of the pillion riders reportedly dismounted, armed with a handgun, and approached one of the victims, during which a scuffle ensued. The suspect allegedly dealt the victim a blow to his head, causing him to receive injuries and relieved him of cash. At the same time, the other pillion rider reportedly dismounted and relieved the second victim of two cellular phones and cash.

A 23-year-old armed security officer who was in the area reportedly observed what was taking place and discharged one shot in the air, after which the perpetrators allegedly discharged several rounds in his direction before fleeing on the motorcycle in a southern direction along the East Bank Access Road.

Emergency Medical Technicians were summoned to the scene and one of the victims was escorted to the Diamond Regional Hospital, where he received medical attention. There were no gunshot injuries.

Four 9mm spent shells were recovered and lodged pending examination.

Investigations are ongoing.
